Heimu, Yitzhak


Son of Rachel and Joseph, was born on December 11, 1911 in Tel Aviv, and at the age of two his mother died and Yitzhak was educated at his grandmother’s home and studied at the “Kol Israel Haverim” school in Neve Tzedek. “Haganah”, where he discovered a great deal of activity that had increased after the UN General Assembly resolution on the partition of the land and the establishment of a Jewish state. He worked as an inspector in the Tel Aviv municipality. On Kislev 5708 (9.12.1947) he arrived with other Haganah members in the Manshiyeh neighborhood, after the synagogue in the neighborhood was set on fire by direct attacks by Arabs. Yitzhak Peretz burst into the synagogue and rescued an elderly couple. After trying to enter the burning building for the second time to save the Torah scrolls, he was hit by a sniper bullet and critically wounded. The doctors’ efforts to save his life failed and he died on the operating table. He was laid to rest at the Nahalat Yitzhak Military Cemetery. He left a wife – Esther and six sons and daughters. His name was immortalized in the book “From War Events”
