Heilberger, Yehuda


Yehuda son of Rivka and Yosef, Heilberger was born on December 12, 1917 in the town of Borszczow, Lizia, Poland. At the age of five, the family emigrated to America, completed elementary school and became a locksmith. His parents had a building in Poland. In 1937, at the age of 20, he went to Poland to sell it, but it went on for a long time. In the meantime the war broke out and he fled for his life. Yehuda found refuge in Russia and stayed there until 1945. At the end of the war he returned to Poland, and from there he moved to Austria and Italy until he made aliyah. He was a member of the Ichud movement. He established a family and immigrated with his family to Israel on August 3, 1948. He spent five weeks in an immigrant home, was drafted into the IDF and underwent training at the Zrifin camp. On the 1st of Tishrei, October 4, 1948, while on his way to Beit Lid, he was run over by a jeep that passed quickly, and was brought to rest in the cemetery in Petah Tikva, leaving behind a wife, Sarah, and child.
