Heidemann, Gershon

Heidemann, Gershon

Son of Ruth and Walter. He was born on December 24, 1924 in Berlin, the capital of Germany, and in 1935 immigrated to Eretz Israel with his parents. When World War II broke out, he enlisted in the British Army and was assigned to the 462 Company of the Transport Corps. He served in Egypt and Lebanon and in late April he went on board the ship “Arinapura” from Egypt to Malta to participate in the invasion of the Allies to Sicily. On the 27th of Nissan, 5703 (1.5.1943), a German plane bombed the convoy when it was off the Benghazi coast. Gershon’s ship suffered direct damage and drowned. One hundred and forty members of Company 462 drowned in disaster, and Gershon among them. His burial place is unknown.
