Born in the village of Beit Zarzir, Mahmud grew up in the village of Beit Zarzir, and after completing his studies, Mahmud decided to volunteer for the IDF, to continue the Bedouin tradition of his tribe and to serve his country. On August 12, 2004 he enlisted, and after basic training and training as a combat soldier was stationed in the Desert patrol battalion. For a year he served in the Gaza Strip and took part in the many security events that took place in the area. His commanders testify that he was a disciplined soldier, who performed all the orders in the best possible way. After serving for a year in the Desert Patrol Battalion, Mahmoud asked to move to the unit so that he could serve in the north of the country. It was hard for Mahmoud to connect to the barren land of the south, where there was only sand and sand, and longed for the north, the green fields and the trees, where he grew up and was attached to him with all his soul. His request was given to him, and he took a scouts course at Beit Guvrin. Afterward, he was transferred to a unit in Unit 300, and when it became clear to him that they were looking for a tracker who would volunteer to serve in the Mt. Dov area, he volunteered happily, even though it was a dangerous and hot sector. But Mahmud’s soul was not restless. He missed his friends in the Desert patrol, so he wanted to return to his original unit. His request was granted, but Mahmoud did not manage to reunite with his friends. On the night of 14 February 2006, Corporal Mahmoud Hassan Hayeb was killed while he was serving, and he was twenty-one years old. He was laid to rest at the cemetery in Ramat Haib.
