Heberman, Zvi

Son of Avraham. Born in 1915 in Berlin, the capital of Germany, he was the son of a single family, and as a member of an assimilated family, Zevi initially belonged to the “Youth Alliance” in Berlin, which advocated complete assimilation: “The only difference between the Jews and the Germans is religion.” After a long time he was caught up in the Zionist idea and “converted to religion.” He joined the ranks of the Zionist youth while he was still a student at the Gymnasium in Berlin, and in 1935 immigrated to Eretz Israel. In Israel he worked in agriculture at Motza, then joined the Haganah, was a guard, moved to Jerusalem and worked as a coworker at the source of Haim. He was a quiet, modest man. Dreamed of settling and belonged to a settlement organization that had risen shortly before his death on the lands of Taibeh. Moshe Ziegler, a friend of youth who asked for his well-being, replied: “Thank God, I am satisfied.” The two friends reminisced about Berlin and the matriculation exams, and Moshe asked Zvi whether he had ever dreamed of being a dairy farmer in Jerusalem, riding a donkey and distributing milk. At the end of the day, the main thing is that I find my bread in the country, how is it not important? ” During the 1936-1939 riots, Zvi persisted in his work and continued, despite the danger, to distribute milk to his clients. On the 28th of Tishrei 5669 (October 23, 1938), Arab rioters ambushed him. They hit him in the head with an ax and cut off his hand, which tried to defend itself. For four weeks he lay unconscious in the hospital and his body struggled with death but could not win. Zvi died on the 24th of Cheshvan 5639 (18.11.1938) and was buried on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. Survived by his parents in Germany. In the “Remembrance of Missing Persons” section, dated January 4, 1939, two eulogies were published in his memory, by his friends
