Hazanowitz, Semyon (Shimon)


Ben Nina and Boris. He was born on October 29, 1975 in Sumagiyet, Azerbaijan, in the former Soviet Union. Eldest brother to Dennis. Semyon grew up and was educated in the country of his birth, completed his studies in management with extra honors, and became an outstanding graduate. In his spare hours, Semyon wrote poetry, and enjoyed this means of expression with great pleasure. In mid-June 1994 he immigrated to Israel alone and after four months, his brother, Dennis, also joined. In November of that year he was orphaned from his mother, who died in the Soviet Union of a serious illness. He began his career in Israel at an absorption center in Ashdod, where he studied at the ulpan. Two months later, he moved to an absorption center in Ashkelon and studied for six months in a program to promote academics in the city’s college. After studying the psychometric exam on his own, he went to Eilat, where he worked as a cook in the hotel, and looked forward to his recruitment. At the beginning of March 1996, he set out for a Hebrew course that prepares for field units. At the end of April 1996, he began basic training at the basic training base “Nitzanim”. Semyon was described by his commanders as a devoted, disciplined and pleasant soldier who stood out in his willingness to help and assist everyone. Was popular among his commanders and friends. During his service, Semyon left a strong impression on his commanders and friends – his character, his willingness to help others, and his pleasant smile. On May 3, 1996, Semyon fell during his service and was laid to rest in the military section of the cemetery at Kibbutz Lehavot Habashan. Twenty-one was Semyon when he fell. He was survived by his father and brother.
