Hazan, Golan (Gooly)

Golan, son of Sarah and Shmuel-Sammy Hazan, was born in 1973 in Zichron Yaakov. At the end of November 1991, Golan enlisted in the IDF and soon became part of the 12th infantry battalion of the Golani Brigade. He was an excellent fighter and was devoted to his service. On the 2nd of Elul (19.8.1993), after a night of lying in ambush, Golan left with a force of fighters to search for a hiding place that would serve as an observation point to prevent terrorists from crossing into the northern communities. At dawn, the force entered Wadi al-Fares and there, one of the soldiers encountered a barbed wire fence that detonated a number of roadside bombs. Seven of the soldiers were killed, among them Golan. He was laid to rest in the military section of the cemetery in Zichron Yaakov. Golan was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant after his death.
