Haviv, Jose-David
Son of Ibt and Fernand was born in Ashdod in 1946. The family, which is a religious family, immigrated from Algeria in 1961 and settled in Ashdod, where David was born and attended the Yahalom Elementary School. He was a member of the Bnei Akiva youth movement, first as a trainee and later as a teacher. As an educator and religious teacher, he enlisted generosity, kindness, and devotion to Jewish values, and in April 1981 David joined the IDF and served in the Armored Corps. He went through basic training and a tank driver course. When the Peace for Galilee war broke out, David immigrated with his unit to Lebanon and was with the force that broke the terrorist strongholds at the beginning of the campaign. On the 8th of Sivan, 5762 (9.6.1982), on the third day of the war, David fell in battle on the airfield north of Tire. He was 20 years old when he died. David was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Ashdod. He left behind his parents, two brothers and two sisters. The defense minister wrote in a letter of condolence to his family: “Jose-David gave his life for his homeland, and he was able to combine Safra and Saifah, long as a guide in his movement for religious youth. The commander of his unit wrote to his family: “He combined Torah study and service as a combat soldier, and was educated on lofty principles and ideals that he hoped to realize.” At the request of his family, his memory was commemorated in the purchase of the “Elijah Seat” used for Brit Milah. The “chair” is delivered by order throughout the country.
