Hasson, Meir
Son of Rivka and Yosef, was born on March 27, 1931 in Jerusalem, studied at the Beit-Aharon Talmud Torah, completed the elementary school in Beit Hakerem and received a prize for excellence in his studies. And studied for two more years at the “Matriculation” Gymnasium, was one of the best athletes in Hapoel and was awarded numerous certificates for his achievements in running, jumping, etc. He was also a book lover, To the “Ahdut Ha’avoda Movement” and to kibbutz agriculture, but until he could realize his ambitions he worked for a private commercial company, the JNF’s main office, and finally, “When the War of Independence broke out and a draft order was issued to those aged 17 and over, he enlisted in the Jerusalem Brigade at the age of 16 and eight months, and when his father objected to that, he reminded him of the” Grandmother and grandfather (Rabbi Chanoch Hasson and his wife Clara) who were murdered in the 1929 riots in Hebron and said, “If I die, I will know what to die for, the young people must be mobilized, because before them there is no fear of death.” Mourned many of his comrades who had fallen and continued to fight. According to the stories of his friends, they drew a raffle between them who would be the next person to fall in line and whose fate was decided upon. Nevertheless, he pleaded with his commander to take him into battle. During Operation Nachshon, he was one of the defenders of the Castel, who was constantly attacked. On April 8, 1948, a heavy attack took place and the defenders were forced to retreat. This battle fell on the 28th of Adar 5708 (1948). He was buried in the Ma’aleh Hahamisha cemetery. On the 19th of Kislev 5714 (19.11.1953) he was put to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
