Hasson, Amos (Abu Zaken)

Hasson, Amos (Abu Zaken)

Son of Meir and Shoshana. He was born on the 21st of Elul, September 13, 1947 in Tel Aviv. He completed his studies at the “Giborey Israel” elementary school and then completed his high school studies in “Shabach”. He was a member of the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed movement, and with his group, on the eve of his enlistment in the IDF, he joined the “Grofit” group, where he was also a guide. As a child, he showed signs of courage and resourcefulness, and a tendency to command and force. In July 1965, he was drafted into the IDF, and volunteered for the paratroopers. He wanted to realize his life’s ambition and serve in the elite paratroopers unit, in which he could have contributed greatly. He was an instructor in an officers’ course. The Six Day War broke out when he was still in compulsory service. For him, the army was not an end in itself, but a means of defeating our enemies who forced war on us. In his last letter he wrote: “We will finish with them!” On the second day of the fighting, on the 27th of Iyar, June 6, 1967, he fell in battle, in the Gaza Strip. He was buried in the military cemetery in Bari, and was later transferred to eternal rest in the Kiryat Shaul military cemetery. After he fell, he was promoted to lieutenant. In the booklet “Three of Us,” published by the Grofit outpost, in memory of the members of Grofit who fell in the Six Day War, a section was dedicated to him. His name was memorialized in a booklet published by the Shevach school where he studied.
