Hassin, Halal (Abu Ali)

Halal, son of Tafaha and Ali Hassin (Abu Ali), of the Druze community in Israel, was born in 1904 on Mount Druze in Syria and arrived in Israel in 1935. During the Second World War he served for two years in the British Army. After he left the army he joined the police. When the British left the country, Halal joined together with his Druze community in the Israel Defense Forces Minority Unit in order to fight with the people of Israel for the liberation of Israel. He was a fierce fighter who knew no fear. He was loved by his friends in the Daliat al-Carmel camp. During Operation “Hiram” for the liberation of the Western Galilee, the unit fought under the command of the Oded Brigade, which operated in the western sector of the operation. On the night of 28-29 October our forces attacked Tarshiha and the Druze unit was assigned to conquer the village of Yanuh. The attack on Tarshiha did not succeed, and the forces were ordered to retreat. The Druze unit took control of Yanu, but due to faults in the connection, it did not accept the withdrawal order. In the morning Kaukji’s forces recovered and with the help of some villagers attacked the unit and was forced to retreat. Halal fell in battle on October 29, 1948 and was buried the next day in the battlefield. He left behind a wife and five children. On November 30, 1954, he was transferred to the Druze cemetery in the village of Usfiya on Mount Carmel.
