Hasdai, Amit (Mitscha)
Ben Corinne and Aaron. Was born on 13.6.1973 in Rehovot, the youngest son in a family of three sons. Amit began his studies at the Weizmann elementary school in his hometown; In 1981, his parents left for a year of shlichut in the United States, where he continued his elementary studies. When the family returned to Israel, Amit continued his studies at the Weizmann School and graduated with the humanitarian track at the Katzir High School in Rehovot. For a short time he was active in the Scouts movement in Rehovot, but his main devotion was to the various sports. Amit played handball in the Maccabi Rehovot team and in 1983 was chosen as an outstanding player. He took a diving course, a favorite aquatic sport, and danced as part of the Hadarim Dance Company. During his free hours he read Hebrew literature, especially on the subject of knowledge of the country, and even tried to write, and together with his classmate wrote poems about human life and love. Amit studied diligently the Bible, the history of the Jewish people and general history, and from a young age he participated in science courses as part of the “Science-Seeking Youth” at the Weizmann Institute, during which he was able to make the most of the beauty and pleasures life offers. Many from school and from the army, and in December 1991 a colleague was recruited to serve in the IDF, striving to serve in a unique combat unit. At the end of basic training, Amit was sent to a course for captains, but was forced to leave the course. At his request, he was transferred to the infantry, joined the Nahal Brigade, and had to go through the arduous track of his basic training in combat training. At his request, he was assigned to a selected Nahal brigade and served as a platoon sergeant On 9/3/1994, a colleague fell in combat in Lebanon. Amit went out with a group of commanders to get to know the sector and the outpost where they operated. During the tour, they encountered a terrorist ambush and the first fire struck Amit and his friend Yakir Shoshi. He was twenty-one years old when he fell. He was laid to rest in the military section of the Rehovot cemetery. Survived by his parents and two brothers – Erez and Alon. Chief of Staff Ehud Barak wrote in a letter of condolence to the family: “Amit fell in a terrorist ambush during an operational operation in southern Lebanon … Amit was described by his commanders as an exemplary soldier who served as an example to his comrades, The commander of his unit wrote to his parents: “Your son, sergeant, combatant, commander and evil, fell in battle with terrorists in Lebanon … Amit symbolized an example of a commander.
