Hartman, Yitzchok
Yitzchok, son of Yehudit and David, Hartman was born on the 15th of Tammuz, July 11, 1922, in a small city on the Rhine River in Germany. In 1936, at age 13, his parents sent him to Israel. In 1939 his parents and two sisters arrived in Israel. From the age of 15 he was a member of the Gadna Brigade. He was trained in a course for paramedics. In Haifa he was one of the commanders of the marine department in the sports organization Elitzur. In addition, he was active in the Alumni Club near HaPoel Hamizrachi. Yitzchok was faithful and devoted to all his duties. When the War of Independence broke out, he joined the defenders of the Carmeli Brigade, fought against Sejera and Ramat Yohanan, and was later sent to the front of the lower city of Haifa as a company medic. On the 13th of Nissan, April 22, 1948, he fell in battle to liberate Haifa, when he was hit by an enemy bullet while running to help a wounded friend. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa.
