Harlap, Yitzhak

Son of Malka and Meir. He was born in Jerusalem on December 15, 1920. He grew up in a traditional home, studied at the “Etz Chaim” yeshiva, and later at the “Tachkemoni” school, which he completed in 1935. He graduated from high school on his own. With the first wave of enlistment to the British army, Yitzhak joined the conscripts of the transport company 462. On 27 Nisan, May 1, 1943, he was with his company on the deck of the ship “Aryanpura”, which led Allied soldiers from Alexandria to Malta. The ship sank with more than three hundred Jewish soldiers on board, Yitzchak was among the one hundred and forty whom drowned. His brother, Shmuel, fell in the War of Independence in the Battle of Gush Etzion. Yitzhak and Shmuel’s father fell in that war as a civilian from the shelling of the Jordanian Legion when he was hit by shrapnel in his shop. On Har Herzl is a memorial, and next to it is a water pool with the names of the fallen engraved on the bottom. His burial place is unknown.
