Harir, Nissim


Son of Ora and Shalomo, was born in 1928 in the city of Haja. Nissim immigrated to Israel in 1944, spent two years in an orphanage in Jerusalem and then went to work in the knitting factory in Kfar Ata. He found his place in the “Hanoar Haoved” society and was very fond of his friends. In December 1947, Nissim joined his comrades in the Haganah. During the War of Independence he served in the Carmeli Brigade, participated in escorting convoys from the valley to Haifa, and often managed to paralyze enemy positions. Nissim participated in an ambush in the Arab convoy of weapons in Kiryat Motzkin, in operations against the villages of Balad a-Sheikh, Tamara and others. He participated in the Ramat Yohanan battle, and encouraged his friends by his poetry until he was seriously injured and brought to Rothschild Hospital in Haifa and after four days of suffering he died of his wounds on the 9th of Nissan, April 18, 1948. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa.
