Harari, Chaim

Haim, son of Huta and Zion, was born on June 25, 1946, in Gabs in Tunisia. He immigrated to Israel in 1956 and attended the “Alumim” elementary school and the “Amal” high school in Dimona. Haim loved sports, especially swimming and weightlifting, and he had a stamp collection that he cultivated and then he passed it on to his brother. After graduating from elementary school, he studied in a number of subjects – frames, welds, and engravings. He was a young, life-loving, cheerful man who loved to drum and play and was the driving spirit at parties and company meetings. Haim was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in February 1964. He completed a combat engineer course and participated in battles on the Syrian front and the Jordanian frontier during the Six-Day War, after he was discharged from the regular army service, married a wife and built a house in Dimona. He was very devoted to his family and proud of his three sons and was of great help to his ten younger brothers and sisters. He was always very kind to his friends and devoted to his family, his wife, and children, and his many brothers and sisters. During the Yom Kippur War Chaim was a soldier in an engineering battalion and participated in the braking battles against the Egyptians on the Sinai front. On October 8, 1973, during the leaving of mines in the northern sector of the Suez Canal, Haim was hit and killed. He was brought to rest in the cemetery in Be’er Sheva. He left behind a wife and three sons and a large family. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote that Chaim had fulfilled the tasks assigned to him with honor; Defense Minister Moshe Dayan wrote to his widow that Haim was a good soldier and a loyal friend, loved by everyone who knew him.
