Handelsman, Aharon (Aharale)
Son of Bluma and Yacob, was born on August 1, 1925 in Poland, in the city of Bendin. That same year his parents immigrated to Israel. Aharon graduated school with a certificate of excellence. He was an active member of Hanoar Haoved and a member of the Haganah. After four years of service Aharon enlisted in the Jewish Brigade, was sent to Egypt and then to Europe, where he took part in a large-scale operation to rescue the refugees and immigrate to Israel. With the outbreak of the War of Independence he was drafted immediately, assumed rank of a platoon, was sent to Jerusalem and was one of the defenders of Talpiot and Mekor Chaim. Because of his previous experience in the Nutras and the Brigade, Aaron adapted to the harsh conditions of the siege. He knew how to encourage his friends, did not get angry at others, took on roles that others had avoided and soon became the living spirit of the department. Aharon served with his good spirits and his constant willingness to help. In the combat unit, Aaron was in the first armored vehicle that broke through the fence of the Allenby camp near Talpiot in Jerusalem on the 6th of Iyar, May 15, 1948, and in that battle he fell from the enemy’s bullet. On the 18th of Elul,(31.8.1950) he was transferred to eternal rest at the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
