Handel, Dov


Son of Sara Bluma and Hillel. Born in 1910 in the city of Makobek, Poland. In 1918, with the founding of Hashomer Hatzair in his city, he was one of its first members. He later became head of the nest and a member of the district leadership. A few years later he was transferred to the Warsaw Jewish National Fund, where he remained until 1936, when he immigrated to Palestine. In Israel he chose the path of pioneering fulfillment and joined his friends from Warsaw in Kibbutz Ein Shemer. He worked in the orchards and, like many members of the kibbutz, joined the Haganah. Was involved in social life and was known for his good temper and gentleness. During his leisure time, he used to travel in nature, took a lot of pictures and showed an interest in art. In August 1938, during the bloody riots of 1936-1939, an Arab terrorist squad infiltrated the courtyard of Kibbutz Ein Shemer. A grenade that did not explode was thrown into the dining room full of people, followed by several shots. Dov was a night watchman and was wounded. The next day, on 1 Elul, August 28, 1938, he died of his wounds and was brought to rest in Kibbutz Ein Shemer. His name was immortalized in the Haganah book and a mentionin his memory was published in Davar,
