Hanani, Benjamin


Benjamin (Benny), son of Esther and Israel, was born on 23 rd March 1952 in Jerusalem. He studied at the Tachkemoni elementary school and continued his elementary studies at the Yefe Nof school in his hometown. He began his high school studies at the Kfar Maimon Yeshiva and graduated from the Or Etzion yeshiva in the Shafir Regional Council. Benny grew up in a traditional home and was educated in educational institutions that attached great importance to the values of the Jewish faith. He was a sensitive, attentive boy. The world of Jerusalem, the holy city, has fascinated him since childhood, and he has traveled extensively in and out of the country. After completing elementary school, he joined the Bnei Akiva youth movement and soon became one of the most prominent activists. He decided to continue his high school studies at a yeshiva outside the home, and chose Kfar Maimon Yeshiva, where he found a wonderful combination of the Negev landscape, rural life, Torah and education. The period of study away from the parents’ home made the child sensitive to an independent and adult boy. At that time he was not the most inclined to study, but did not miss a trip to the spectacular Negev landscapes, and recorded his experiences and feelings in rhymes. One of his many songs, “Night in the Negev,” describes the mysterious atmosphere of the desert with Lil: (see poems in Hebrew)” Benny was drafted into the IDF in late 1970, and joined the “Nahal” After basic training, he went with his friends to the nucleus for the El Al outpost in the Golan Heights, where he served as the nuclear center. He worked in Deir, carried the burden of daily life at a school point, and a year later completed a parachuting course and was allowed to wear the wings of a parachutist. Benny completed his military training course, graduated with a high grade (95) and was sent to the officers’ course, which he completed with honors, and was awarded the rank of lieutenant colonel. In July 1973, he decided to extend his military service for a year. , But he knew the way to the heart of his subordinates and his comrades in arms, and they loved and cherished him, and he passed his first baptism of fire even before the Yom Kippur War, because he was one of the forces that raided the terrorist bases on the shores of Lebanon. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, Benny was in the religious farm of Ramat Magshimim, on the Golan Heights,he was sent to Rafid junction to help stop the attack. On the 7th of Tishrei 5734 (7.10.1973), Benjamin was killed on his victory over the cruel campaign and brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl and left behind his father, brother and sister,
