Hamerman, Moshe (Eldad)

Son of Miriam and Shlomo, was born on August 12, 1928 in Hungary, and when he was four, his parents immigrated to Israel. Moshe began to study at the Tachkemoni School, completed successfully and excellently, and later studied at the Mikveh Israel Agricultural School. He dreamed of an agricultural training course at a high school. His parents had a restaurant in Tel Aviv and at an early age he began to help them, especially after his father suffered a severe illness, and even during the last few days, when he went out to guard duty overnight, he did his work meticulously. In his youth he joined Betar and when he grew up he moved to the Irgun underground. Where he was known as “Lieutenant Eldad” and only in that name did his friends recognize him. Excelled in trumpeting, and his picture, when he blew the trumpet, was published in postcards and poetry books as a symbol of a proud Jew. Moshe took part in the activities of the Irgun and during his stay at the Jaffa-Tel Aviv border he was seriously injured by an enemy bullet and was transferred to a hospital where he died on December 30, 1947. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak .
