Haligua, Yaacov
Yaacov, son of Mazal and Moshe Haligua, was born in 1924 in Salonika, Greece. He graduated from elementary school and studied in a gymnasium until the age of 17. He was then kidnapped by the Nazis and sent to labor and extermination camps. The whole family was murdered by the Germans and only he and his brother remained. In 1946, he arrived in Israel on the ship “Demetrius”. Yaacov was accepted by the Haganah. He moved to Bat Yam, worked as a laborer and took part in the defense of the city. Yaacov showed up for full service, served in the Alexandroni Brigade and fought in various battles. On the 27th of Tishrei, 5709 (30.10.1948), he fell in Migdal Tzedek when he went out with a guard squad to patrol the area and encountered an enemy. Yaacov was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak. He left behind a wife and child.
