Halevy Klein, Yitzhak-Meir (Itzik)
Son of Rivka and Dov, Holocaust survivors, was born on July 1, 1957 in Haifa, where he studied at the Maalot HaNevi’im Elementary School and at the Ironi Hey High School in Haifa, where he excelled in his studies and was outstanding in his talents. Yitzhak was a member of the “Scouts” movement and was active in the Gadna and volunteering activities, such as the Civil Guard and the army’s food base, and also helped his friends, who had studied with him in the class. He stood out as pleasant, humble, honest, devoted to his family and to his circle of friends. When the Peace for Galilee war broke out, Yitzhak was called up for reserve duty. For five weeks he served in the Tire area. In October 1982, Yitzhak was again called up for reserve duty at the Military Government in Tire. On the 25th of Cheshvan 5743 (11.11.1982), Yitzhak found his death among dozens of other soldiers when the government building collapsed and he was 25 years old. He left behind his parents and brother. After his death, Yitzhak was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel and was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. His unit commander wrote: “Yitzhak served in the MPCID in 1974 and stood out as a smart, responsible, reliable and devoted young man.” Yitzhak was the first soldier to be recruited and served in the Tzur area, with close proximity and without tirelessness.
