Hakim, Yaakov

Jacob (Jackie), son of Naima and Na’im, was born on September 13, 1952 in Jerusalem. Yaakov was drafted into the IDF in early November 1970 and volunteered for the Paratroopers Brigade, where he received a high grade (95). He was a good officer, and excelled in devotion, courage, and boldness. His commanders wrote about him in his opinion: “He is devoted to his job and performs it with great efficiency, he has leadership ability, he is responsible, independent, and decisive, entrepreneurial and energetic, reliable and loyal, very serious and disciplined.” After the end of his regular service he continued to serve in the regular army. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, Yaakov was a member of a company commanders’ course. The course was dispersed, his apprentices were sent to the front, and Yaakov was sent to the front in Sinai. He participated in the battles of containment and incursion against the Egyptians. On October 17, 1973, while his battalion was attacking enemy forces near the Chinese Farm, he was hit and killed. He was laid to rest at the Mount Herzl cemetery in Jerusalem. He was survived by a father, a mother and two sisters. After his fall, he was promoted to Captain.
