Haimovitz, Yosef

Haimovitz, Yosef

Son of Zeev and Tzipora. He was born on the 12th of Sivan 5712 (12.6.1912) in the city of Udovest, Romania, where he graduated from high school. In 1933 he immigrated to Israel. Apart from reading books and collecting stamps he loved flowers very much. He liked the work in his own garden – every flower he planted was nurtured out of concern that he would blossom and rise well. He loved to visit theater and dance performances. His son and daughter had a great deal of love. He was a loyal father to his children and a devoted husband to his wife. He did the electrical work in his own home, with precision and skill. Before the establishment of the State of Israel he was a member of the Hagana and was very active in it. At the same time he was arrested by the British as one of the Hagana prisoners of war and was drafted into the IDF during the War of Independence and in early June 1949 he joined the regular army. For many years he served as an officer in the city of Rehovot and this work was faithfully fulfilled. During the Six-Day War he was injured in a car accident and despite his wounds, he did not leave his office and continued his role with dedication. On July 24, 1971, Major Yosef Haimovitch died during his service as a result of illness and was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Rishon Letzion.
