Haimovitz, Michelle


Michel, son of Golda (Rachel) and Benjamin (Boyum), was born on July 30, 1946 in Romania,Michelle was drafted into the IDF in August 1964 and assigned to the Engineering Corps, and after completing his basic training he trained in various units of combat engineering, and was recognized as a good and devoted soldier and a loyal friend who performed all his duties to the satisfaction of his commanders. He worked in the fields of retrenching and electricity and worked in these fields at the “Israel Cables” factory, succeeded well and reached the rank of chief electrician. In the evening he studied to obtain a certificate from a higher-level professional, which would allow him further advancement in his work at the factory. In the Yom Kippur War, Michel served in an engineering corps camp in the south of the country. On the 17th of Tishrei 5734 (October 13, 1973) he fell during his service. He was laid to rest in the cemetery in Sderot. He left behind a wife, a daughter who was born after his death, a mother and two sisters. After his death he was promoted to corporal. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander praised Michel as a soldier and as a man and noted that he had fulfilled all his duties with dedication.
