Haimovitz, Dov


Dov, son of Gittel and Yehoshua Haimovitz, was born in 1926, in Romania. He began studying dentistry, but due to the Nazi persecutions, he did not finish his studies and joined the immigrants to Israel. When he reached the shores of the country he was deported by the British to Cyprus. He was released in April 1947 and began his work as a guard in the Haifa area. With the start of the War of Independence, Dov was drafted into the Carmeli Brigade where he participated in repelling Arab attacks on Jewish settlements. On the 15th of Sivan (22.6.1948), Dov died in a road accident near Afula. He was brought to rest at the military cemetery in Afula.
