Haimov, Yosef (Yoshko)


Son of Rachel and Albert, was born on the 11th of Tishrai, October 3, 1930 in Sofia, Bulgaria. Yosef was exiled to Cyprus and brought to Israel by the Haganah on 9.3.1948. Yosef joined Kibbutz Beit Hashita where he worked and trained in weapons, guarding and defense. In July 1948, he volunteered for the Navy and served in the Landing Company. On the night of July 17-18, 1948, Operation “Death to the Intruder” was carried out with the aim of breaking through the Negev. The landing company broke into the village and at the north, but the attack from the south failed. The Egyptians concentrated their efforts against the landing company and they eventually had to retreat. Yosef fell on the 11th of Tammuz 5708 (18.7.1948). On the 16th of Tishrei 5710 (October 9, 1949) Yosef was transferred to eternal rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
