Haim, Zion

The son of Mary and Abraham, was born on Wednesday Tishrei Tsi”a (15/09/1950) Moshav Amka in the Western Galilee. Zion was a traditional family, immigrants from Yemen. As a child, the family moved to Holon, where he studied at the state-religious school “Yeshurun” . Zion has completed eight years of schooling, and then went to work. during his tenure he has acquired professional baker and confectioner. In November 1968 he enlisted in the IDF score, and served in-armor. After his discharge from regular service in 1971, he fulfilled his duty in the reserves. Zion fought during the Yom Kippur War. After the war he married and his first son was born. Two years later, Zion was widowed and took care of his little boy. His friends spoke of Zion’s devotion to his orphaned child. He remarried and his daughter was born. When the Peace for Galilee War broke out, Zion enlisted and went with his unit to Lebanon. On the 20th of Sivan 5762 (11.6.1982), he advanced in an armored personnel carrier in the Bekaa Valley near the village of Mazra’at-Azi. Syrian aircraft bombed the column, and hit an armored personnel carrier which drove score. Three soldiers were killed. Among them was the score. Age 31 years, he was dead. Zion was buried at the military cemetery in Holon. He left behind a wife, son, daughter, mother and five brothers. his wife was seven months pregnant when he fell. the Defense Minister Ariel Sharon wrote a condolence letter to his family: “Zion gave his life for his country. He served in the Armored Corps. Was an outstanding soldier and liked by all. “His unit commander wrote:” Despite the difficult problems that he had in his family, filled Zion military duty faithfully. His fall is a terrible loss to his family. A son who was a brother and a dear friend fell, helping and relieving everyone who was in his presence. The innocence, peace and quiet were his property and they will hold us in the future. “
