Hagag, David
Son of Fortuna and Zevulun. Was born in Beer Sheva on December 8, 1953. David was born in a home (not in a hospital) and was the first son after two daughters, In Be’er Sheva, and continued at the “Makif Gim” high school in the academic track, and David was a quiet and introverted child, who read books and his sisters called him “a bookworm.” David loved to sing and play guitar and also play basketball. The neighborhood club At the beginning of November 1971, David enlisted in the IDF and was assigned to the Armored Corps. He took an artillery course and served as a tank gunner. During the Yom Kippur War, David served as a cannon in a tank that was on a search mission in the “Chinese farm” area. The tank was hit and the crew, except for the driver, managed to get out of the tank. David returned to the damaged tank, despite the strong fire fired at the tank, in order to get the driver out of it. David was injured in the rescue operation and fell on the 7th of Tishrei 5740 (7.10.1973). He was laid to rest in the Kiryat Shaul military cemetery. He was twenty years old when he fell. Upon leaving, he was survived by his parents, four sisters and a brother. His mother died in January 1992. After his death, David was promoted to sergeant. On the courage he displayed when he tried to rescue the tank driver, David received a Citation from the Chief of Staff. On his certificate, Major General Gur said that David Hagag showed courage and comradeship.
