Hadar (Pomerantz), Nitzan

Nitzan, son of Yehudit and Haim, was born on the 23rd of Heshvan 5667 (23.11.1935) in Hadera. Nitzan was drafted into the IDF in early October 1954 and was assigned, at his request, to the Nahal Brigade. After completing basic training he completed a course for squad commanders and at the end of the course was trained, then completed a course for infantry officers and a parachuting course. Nitzan was a soldier and an excellent commander, responsible and devoted to his job. He served as an example of his subordinates in his good temper and in his passivity and was devoted and concerned. As an officer, he did not insist on discipline, but demanded the exact execution of the tasks he had entrusted to his subordinates. During his service in the Israel Defense Forces, he tried not to worry about his parents, often visited the house and made sure to phone and write to them, never complained about difficulties and told his friends that he “found his place” in the army and the Nahal. During his vacations he used to spend time in Kibbutz Dan and volunteered to help with various jobs in the kibbutz. At the end of compulsory service, he volunteered to serve for one year in the regular army. After completing his service he returned to the kibbutz and began working as a mechanic in the garage. Nitzan served as an anti-tank officer and fought in the Golan Heights area. In the shelling that landed on his unit north of Tel Fares, when he tried to call the radio, Nitzan was wounded in the head by shrapnel and critically wounded to the hospital in Safed. The doctors’ efforts to save him failed and he died of his wounds on October 15, 1973. He was brought to eternal rest in the Hadera cemetery. He left behind a wife and four children and parents.
