Hadad, Ovadia (Ovedka)

Son of Roza and Shalom, was born on January 2, 1931 in the Mahanayim neighborhood of Jerusalem. Ovadia attended primary school until fifth grade and was forced to stop his studies when he died from his father. He went to study in the village of Meir Shfeya, studied agriculture and was Simcha with it. His mother and sisters, who kept caring for him, wanted him to continue his studies, but he decided that he had to give them back, if only a little, what they had given him-especially since the mother was weak and worthy of the son’s concern. He returned to Jerusalem, began to work and supported his family. With the outbreak of the War of Independence he left his job and enlisted. Sent with reinforcements to Kfar Etzion and fulfilled his duty with dedication and meticulousness, even denied any vacation. After the murder of the four Sheikh Jarrah, who were extradited by the British to the Arabs, he said: “If I reach the same situation, I will not fall into the hands of the Arabs. The family believes that this was how he died. On 12 May, Arab Legion and Arab forces launched a heavy attack on the Etzion Bloc and managed to separate it into two. The next day the attack on Kfar Etzion continued and it fell into enemy hands. In these battles he fell on 3 May 1948. His mother did not live long after his death and died that year, on the 17th of Cheshvan 5710 (November 17, 1949) he was put to rest in the military cemetery at Har- Herzl in Jerusalem.
