Hadad Halevy, Rachel


Daughter of Jacob. One of the first settlements in Em Hamoshavot, Petach Tikva. Wife of Yosef Halevy of Horodna and the mother of the legendary guard Sender Hadad. The settlers of Petach Tikva were subject to harassment by their Arab neighbors from the Abu Kishk tribe and the Arab residents who claimed to hold some of the village lands. One night Arabs raised their herd on the territory of Petach Tikva. The guardians of the settlement, led by Sender Hadad and Yehuda Raab, ambushed them, deflected their blows, and took the herd. The next day almost all the men of Petach Tikva went out with the herd and led him to Jaffa, to the Turkish governor. Arabs exploited the fact that Petach Tikva emptied of men and raided the colony, broke and destroyed and sowed destruction. Rachel, who tried to resist them, was severely beaten. She was brought to a hospital in Jerusalem, where she died on the 26th of Adar 2, 2.4.1886. She was brought to rest in the cemetery on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem.
