Hadad, Avraham (Abrasha)

Son of Bruria and Maimon, was born on February 20, 1928 in the Soviet Union, and when he was 6, his parents immigrated to Israel. In Afula, where his parents settled, he studied at the Mizrachi elementary school until the age of 13 and was forced to move to a working life. At first he worked in a garage and mechanics, and after moving to Tel Aviv – when he was about 15 – he began to work in polishing diamonds. When he reached the age of 16 he joined the underground, despite the opposition of his parents, and suffered many hardships in his ranks. In 1945 he joined the Nutras and served for about a year in Beer Yaakov. After completing his service he returned to his work with diamonds. In June 1947 he was arrested by the British as a suspect in the underground activities in Jerusalem and sent to the Latrun camp. With the approaching date of the termination of the Mandate, he was transferred to Atlit and from there was released on March 25, 1948. That same day he joined the army without first visiting his parents. As an armored driver, he participated in escorting convoys to the south, and during one of these operations his hand was broken and he was given a month’s leave, but in those days the fighting in Israel intensified and his Lev was not allowed to sit idly by. With his own hand he removed the plaster from his other hand and returned to service, although driving with a hand that had not healed still caused him pain. His next stop was Shimshon Foxes, in the Givati ​​Brigade, with whom he participated in all battles in the Negev and from there moved to the Triangle. Avraham fell in an accident near Netanya on the 24th of Kislev 5709 (26.12.1948) and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Netanya.
