Habib, Abraham

Abraham, son of Hanna and Shlomo Habib, was born in 1911 in the city of Haban in Yemen and in 1930 immigrated to Israel and settled in Jerusalem. In his work as a plasterer and bricklayer, he supported his family, which grew to seven children. He was humble in his claims to life and made do with little. At the outbreak of the War of Independence, he became one of the first to serve the people and was given every order to go out to work in the vicinity of Jerusalem. At the beginning of the shelling Abraham said goodbye to his wife and children and took up his post on guard duty and was hit by a shell. He fell on the 22nd of Nissan 5708 (1.5.1948). He was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
