Haber, Zelig (Jojo)


Son of Tovah and Nathan, was born in December 1912 in the city of Mikulozin, Poland. He graduated from elementary school and studied the framework profession. In 1932 he immigrated to Israel as a “tourist” and did not return to Israel. At first he joined Kibbutz Mizra, and when he left the kibbutz, he managed to work in the metal industry. In the evening he continued his professional training. Zelig joined the Haganah. He was a strong, strong, good-hearted guy, always willing to help others, simple and humble in his manners and mannerisms. Zelig loved the sport and belonged to HaPoel in Haifa, and over time was one of the best gymnasts. In the events of 1936-1939 he took part in the defense of the Yishuv and filled many positions in the Haganah positions. He took part in guarding and accompanying the immigrants to settle in new points within the borders of the country (Hanita and others). He participated in many folk tours in order to get to know the country about the mountains, Amakya, its rocks and its caves. When he received the bitter news that his parents and entire family had been exterminated by the Nazis, he did not want to be consoled and decided to enlist in the British army to avenge their blood. He served in the British Army for almost a year. With the outbreak of the War of Independence, he was among the first to respond to the order of the institutions. On Sunday, February 12, 1948, he went to a very dangerous position on Hashomer Street in Haifa, where he was hit by an enemy bullet and he fell in. Selig was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa.
