Haas, Gadi (Gedaliah Zvi)


Son of Sarah and Menahem. He was born on November 6, 1972 in Jerusalem. He began his studies with a general orientation in the Horev Yeshiva, where he completed twelve years of study. At the end of his studies, Gadi submitted a request to join the Karnei Shomron hesder yeshiva and to serve in the IDF in accordance with the yeshiva students arrangement that combines military service with yeshiva studies. At the end of the basic training period, he applied for leave. He was assigned to the Intelligence Corps and went on a lookout course. His commanders testified that he was an outstanding soldier, reliable and of a high personal standard. He was chosen for a special, secret and prestigious activity. He received a personal certificate of appreciation from the division commander for the capture of a wanted person. Gadi was appointed commander of an observation team. He was an elite soldier, friendly, commanding, and highly operational. On the 18th of Nisan 5753 (18.4.1993) Gadi fell in the line of duty and was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. He left behind his parents, two brothers – Yossi and Kobi and a sister – Elisheva. He was twenty-one when he died. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the unit commander wrote, among other things: “Gadi z” l volunteered for the unit while giving up his yeshiva studies and sacrificing his personal comfort. Gadi stood out for his industriousness and his great help to others, in his professional and intelligence work “
