Guy (Michael) Chico

Guy was born in the spring on the 12th of Iyar 5742 (26.4.1972) in Netanya, the eldest son of Batya, born in Belgium and Oren was born in Israel. When Guy was two years old, his brother Dori was born. Guy accepts Dori as an older brother, even though he is still in infancy, and from here develops a very close and warm relationship between the two, which becomes deeper as they get older. Like all his peers, Guy makes an optional kindergarten and begins his studies at the Itamar school. As a child who is an eighth generation in Israel from his father’s side, who serves as a career officer and a mother to a Holocaust survivor, Guy already absorbed the values of Israel and Judaism as a child, especially on many walks around the country. Guy joined the Scouts movement, where he worked for several years, with his friends Elad, Guy and Sa’ar. Already in his childhood, Guy stood out as a curious child, interested in almost every field. He studied Darsch and deepened his knowledge and was revealed to have high intelligence. Alongside his extensive knowledge, his personal qualities were revealed – sensitivity, delicacy, developed aesthetic sense, love of nature, humanities and exact sciences, political alertness and strong friendships with his friends. When Guy was nine, his sister Hely was born. Guy takes up his role as an elder, helps his mother grow her, and contributes to her education and personality. At the age of thirteen, Guy travels to Europe with his parents and brother Dori. This is his second trip abroad after he traveled to Romania with his mother and brother at the age of 7. As usual, he is very interested and enjoying the road in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and France, from the art galleries and the museums of science, nature and the atmosphere of the city. He traveled abroad to celebrate his brother’s bar-mitzvah, Dori. This time in Italy and Switzerland. Guy did high school at Tchernichovsky, where his parents also studied, and in ninth and sixth grades he spent time with Dovev, Yaniv and Eyal. With the division into trends, choose the physical trend. Here joined the group – Kobi, Rami, Oded and Ravid. In the teacher, Judith Guitin, he found not only a good teacher of mathematics, but also an educational and social figure. Guy excelled in mathematics without having to invest much. He divided his time between studies, society, political pursuits, and reading of literature and poetry. In his hobby, photography, he finds a way to express innocence, curiosity and even poeticism. In the school newspaper system he met Efrat, who turned the concept of friendship into a total concept, and whose love for her was uncompromising. Although he did not give up a moment with her, his achievements in the matriculation exams were very good, and so was the psychometric exam, where he achieved results that attested to his tremendous potential. Before his induction he traveled again in Europe – England, Wales, France and Germany, this time with Efrat. Everything is planned in great detail – the first exit to independence and an attempt to fully exhaust the enjoyment. Efrat enlisted in the army and Guy spent his days on the Netanya route – Julis, where Efrat did basic training. Before his induction, the deliberations were difficult. He was successful in course tests and successfully passed from stage to stage until he was disqualified from the medical point of view. Despite fitness limitations, he wanted to do things that required a ‘big head’ and chose the intelligence track. A path in which he could contribute from his ability to advance and deal with truly important matters, as a soldier and as an officer. The route is demanding but does not deter it. In mid-November 1990, Guy was drafted into the IDF, and he went to basic training in the Armored Corps, but in 1991, during the Gulf War, he went on a squad commanders’ course. Guy enjoyed the course and the staff of the instructors and his friends in the company, Eran and Guy. In the second week of the course, he was appointed a weekly platoon commander and on the fifth week they went to the Gaza Strip for operational employment On the afternoon of Adar 5751 (March 11, 1991)On the first tour of the Erez checkpoint – the “garages” area – between Beit Lahiya and Beit Hanoun, a patrol vehicle was hit by an Arab soldier, injuring two soldiers and two others. Guy was killed on the spot. He was eighteen years old and ten months old. Guy was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Netanya. The commander of the company wrote in his memoirs: “In his daily activities and in his work, he proved that his place in the first row – both in the platoon and in the company – proved to be one of the most outstanding soldiers, a soldier who knew how to lead and lead a soldier who invested and wanted to study and succeed in the course. To a soldier who drew an army at home, he appreciated and respected his commanders, did his best. ” Survived by his parents, brother Dori and sister Healy.
