Daughter of Haya and Joseph. She was born in 1904 in Czernowitz, Romania, where she met her husband, Shmuel, who emigrated from Poland, and they immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1935. They aspired to agricultural life and established a small farm in Kiryat Haroshet, with about sixty families. Leah cultivated the farm while her husband worked for a living in the bakery in Haifa and in the evenings, after a hard day’s work, planted fruit trees, and joined the ranks of the Haganah during the bloody riots of 1936-1939, On the 21st of Tammuz, 20.7.1938, attacked the small and isolated settlement dozens of Arabs armed with rifles, axes and knives. They broke into the hut of the Gutterman family and shot Leah, her husband Shmuel and her daughter Bilha, who was a year and a half old, and then set fire to the hut without leaving a trace.
