Gutowicz, George (Jacob)


Son of Shlomo and rest. He was born on August 31, 1951, in Paris, France. Where he graduated from elementary school and even began high school. In France, George was a member of the Hashomer Hatzair movement, and after immigrating to Israel he was accepted to Kibbutz Merhavia. In the kibbutz he continued his studies at the educational institution and at the same time worked as a counselor in one of the classes. His family immigrated to Israel a year and a half later. In two areas, George was interested in music and agriculture. He spent many hours playing the accordion, having learned to play himself, without the help of a teacher. He also worked in the orchard and his attitude toward the orchard trees was similar to his attitude toward people – full of tenderness and feeling. Although he was not outstanding in his studies, he was very sociable, sensitive to his girlfriend’s problems, and had a healthy outlook on life. He was the embodiment of a healthy mind in a healthy body, excelled in most sports and participated in all the sporting events in the Jezreel Valley and the Galilee. He was recruited to the IDF at the beginning of November 1969. On May 11, 1970, he fell in the area of ​​the Suez Canal in the shelling of the enemy Was brought to rest in the cemetery in Merhavia, after which the Hashomer Hatzair movement published a booklet in French in memory of him called “Ya’akov”.
