Gutowicz, Chaim


Son of Gila and Gedaliah. He was born on September 16, 1916 in the city of Kowel, Poland. At first he was a member of the Betar youth movement, but left it and joined the Hehalutz movement so that he could obtain a permit to immigrate to Palestine, and twice he escaped from home and joined a group of pioneers who qualified for aliya and was returned home by his parents twice. He joined the Haganah and was sent to the police, where he served in Jerusalem and was transferred to the Investigations Department in Tel Aviv. On the 17th of Iyar 5704 (May 10, 1944) he was shot and killed at the entrance to his home and was brought to eternal rest in the Haganah section of the Nahalat Yitzhak cemetery and left a wife, child, brother and sister.
