Gutman, Yosef-Zalman


Son of Yocheved and Avraham, was born on May 10, 1928 in Tel Aviv. When he was 12 years old, his mother died and he was forced to go to work and became a locksmith and an expert mechanic. When Yosef-Zalman was 14 he joined the Haganah and at the age of 17 -he joined the Palmach. From there he went on to serve as a guard in the Hebrew police settlement in Ayelet Hashahar. With the outbreak of the War of Independence, Yosef joined the defensive forces. On the 6th of Nissan 5708 (April 15, 1948), Yosef fell and was buried in Ayelet Hashahar. On the 27th of Elul, September 21, 1949, he was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
