Gurfein, Yitzhak


Son of Rachel and Mordechai. He was born on December 15, 1922 in Milwych, Poland. At the beginning of the Second World War, he devoted himself with great devotion and courage, as a liaison between the Betar branches in Poland and Lithuania, and on his way to Eretz Israel he passed many obstacles and dangers, but after two years of wandering throughout Russia, Upon his arrival in Palestine, he enlisted immediately in the ranks of the British Army infantry, and later became a member of the Jewish Brigade, and at the end of October 1944 the Brigade was transferred to the front of the war with the Germans. From private rank to corporal Yale was full of actions on the front, and he felt confident and cool, and led patrols with great success beyond enemy lines, and was known to be a resourceful, quiet and humble soldier who did his job well and was fond of his friends On 12.4.1945, his battalion advanced over the Sanyo River and reached Torre, where he came in a battle of fire with the German forces, and the platoon under his command rose on a hill and encountered a pause class of Germans who had barricaded themselves into one of the houses and rained mortars. In the assault on the house, Yitzhak was hit by shrapnel from a mortar shell that exploded near him, took a few more steps and then fell and died. He was buried in Ravenna, Italy.
