Gurevitch, Orna


Daughter of Rachel and Moshe, was born in Nahariya on October 23, 1963. For a short time, the family lived in Petach Tikvah, where Orna began her elementary studies, and when the family moved to Hadera, Orna went on to study at the Tzafririm elementary school and she graduated from high school in the biology track, and her teachers noted that she was an intelligent student, independent of her opinions and talent, and Orna knew how to express herself orally and in writing and contributed her pen to her school newsletter. She was also an active member of the “Youth for Youth” organization and was involved in guiding children in a neighborhood community center, and in January 1982 she enlisted in the IDF. After completing basic training, Orna Kors finished her training course and was assigned to serve as a service conditions coordinator at the Hadera city’s police officer’s office, and her commanders noted her: “A very smart, sensible and sensitive girl. She is quiet and gives a sense of devotion. With a high personal level, and self-confidence. “In May 1982, Orna contracted a malignant disease, and nine months later she died, on the 3rd of Adar 5743 (February 15, 1983). She was 19 years old when she died. Orna was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Hadera. She left behind her parents and two brothers. After she died, Orna was promoted to sergeant. She was immortalized in a memorial booklet that her family published as a student and as a soldier.
