Guetta, Moshe
Moshe, son of Rachel and Zion, was born on 19.11.1943 in Tripoli, Libya, and immigrated to Israel in 1964. In his hometown he studied in an elementary school and also attended a Hebrew school in the synagogue After the late Rabbi Yehuda Seroussi. Moshe grew up and was educated in the spirit of the unique tradition of the Libyan Jewish community. In the Hebrew school he proved to be a diligent and diligent student, dedicated himself to studies and achieved outstanding achievements. Due to the difficult economic situation of his family, he went to work and specialized in the tailoring profession, he bore the burden of supporting the family and was the main supporter of it. But his younger brothers and sisters were encouraged to continue their studies and acquire an education and thus to realize what he could not. Moshe was known as a pleasant man, kind to people and hated quarrelsome. He was loved and accepted by members of the Jewish community in Tripoli, thanks to his good qualities and his willingness to always help anyone in need. From his youth Moshe absorbed the values of love for the people of Israel and the aspiration to immigrate to the Land of Israel. He accepted the ideas of the Zionist movement and stuck to them. Despite the restrictions imposed by the regime in his country, he managed to secretly listen to the radio broadcasts from Palestine. He knew about the achievements of the state, was Simcha for them and his aspiration to immigrate to Israel intensified. In 1963, after reaching the conclusion that his family was well established, he decided to realize his dream and immigrate to the Land of Israel. Despite the fact that the exit permit was not easy, he did not flinch and strung steadily for a whole year, until he managed to outwit the Libyan authorities and managed to get out of there with his sister Miriam and reach Italy. Where he immediately contacted representatives of the Jewish Agency and they helped him reach Israel. After settling his younger sister and taking care of her needs, he embarked on a new struggle aimed at establishing himself and advancing in his new country. He worked as a plasterer and construction worker, and made great efforts to succeed in his work and advance. In 1965 he married his girlfriend Ilana and together established his home in Lod. Moshe was drafted into the IDF at the end of November 1967. After basic training and basic training, he was assigned to reserve duty in the Jerusalem Brigade, where he was called for periods of reserve service. After many years of hard work he managed to acquire his own home and began fulfilling one of the goals he set for himself, and on the eve of Rosh Hashana he left his family and went to reserve duty. He and his comrades defended the strongholds along the Suez Canal. On the eve of Yom Kippur he had to go on holiday, but he gave up his turn to be with his family on Sukkot. In the Yom Kippur War, the soldiers of the Jerusalem Brigade fought to contain the enemy forces, who began to cross the canal. In the battle to defend the stronghold of “Hatznit”, Moshe was severely wounded and taken prisoner. On the 7th of Tishrei 5740 (7.10.1973) he died of his wounds in Egyptian captivity. His downfall interrupted his efforts to achieve all the things he had dreamed of and worked for. After his body was returned, he was brought to eternal rest in the Lod cemetery. He left behind a wife, two sons, a daughter, parents, five brothers and three sisters. After his death he was promoted to corporal. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the commander of his unit wrote: “Moshe was one of our ranks, he fought valiantly in the” Hatznit “stronghold on the Suez Canal and fell in defense of his comrades and his home on the home front.
