Grynszpan, Yakov (Yank)


Son of Gitta and Joseph. He was born on 9 February 1949. When Yaakov was eight years old, the family immigrated to Israel and was accepted to Kibbutz Ramat Hakovesh, where he began his elementary studies in Wroclaw, Poland and continued at the Kibbutz Ramat Hakovesh school. He continued his high school studies at Kibbutz Ramat Hakovesh, and in early November 1968 Yaakov was drafted into the army. He completed basic training and was assigned to the maintenance corps. Yaakov was sent to a course in the quartermaster offices and at the end he was promoted to a corporal and assigned to serve in one of the intelligence units in Sinai. In all his services Yaakov was connected to the intelligence units. He became acquainted with their special equipment, acquired additional knowledge and professionalism, and became involved in missions of the Intelligence Corps. In 1971 he joined the ranks of the career army and advanced to the rank of major sergeant. In 1973 Jacob married his girlfriend Shoshana and they expanded their family with the birth of Asaf and Hila. In his opinion on the resistors, his commanders wrote: “Devotion and responsibility at a high level, positive attitude towards IDF property and the great equipment that was his responsibility. Is involved in basic life. “In early 1984, Yaakov suffered a malignant disease and underwent a difficult and complicated operation in his head, despite his limitations, making every effort to carry out his duties in the unit. He succeeded in fighting his illness and died at the Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer, where he was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Kfar Saba, and was survived by Shaya, Shoshana, Son of – Asaf and Daughter of – Hila, Galia and Raya wrote in a letter of condolence to the bereaved family: “Yank served in our unit in Sinai during the War of Attrition and during the Yom Kippur War. Throughout his service, Yank contributed a great deal to the unit and its soldiers. He performed his duties with remarkable dedication and efficiency.
