Grossman, Yeshayahu (Tibi)


Son of Reizel and Yitzhak, was born in 1924 in the city of Wadzin, Romania. He completed seven grades of the elementary school and became a shoemaker. When the Nazis came to Budapest. Although he was considered a Christian and had Christian credentials, he belonged to an underground Zionist organization. After the liberation he did not delay his immigration to Israel. From Hungary he moved to Austria and Italy, and on the “Four Freedoms” ship he immigrated to Israel, was transferred to Cyprus and immigrated there on February 15, 1947. For a while he was a member of Kibbutz Aviv, who was trained on the land of the “Eretz Israel” kibbutz and “Hashomer Hatzair”. After leaving the kibbutz he enlisted in service on February 1, 1948, a year after his immigration. Yeshayahu trained in Shavei Tzion, served in the “Carmeli” Brigade and took part in all the operations to liberate the Western Galilee. From there he went to the Jenin front. On May 3, 1948, in the battle for Jenin, during a retreat from a position that was severely shelled, his wounded friend took the “Beza” machine gun so that it would not fall into the hands of the Arabs. On 20 Av 5710 (3.8.1950), he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
