Grossman, Dan (Otto)
Dan (Otto), son of Hela and Zvi (Heinrich) Grossman, was born on February 25, 1914, in Vienna, Austria, to wealthy parents. Dan immigrated to Israel in 1935 to study humanities at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He was kind, cheerful, and happy. Dan was a member of the Haganah and during the 1936-1939 riots he fought in the ranks of the Wingate Company, and later served as a guard until 1942. From then until the day he fell, he worked at the Spiret factory in Bat Yam and took part in all the Haganah operations there. On the 28th of Shevat 5708 (February 8, 1948) he set out to guard an extreme position near Jaffa where he was killed. Dov was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak. He left behind a wife and daughter.
