Grossberg, Chaim Levi

Chaim Levi, son of Yehudit and Moshe Grossberg, was born on 30.7.1920 in Jerusalem to a Jerusalem family rooted in the Land of Israel. He studied at Talmud Torah and later at the Talmud Torah school of the “Mizrachi”. Then he helped his father work in the store. He hardly left the borders of Jerusalem, which he loved so much. Chaim Levi was a member of the Haganah from 1946 and belonged to Chayyim, and as a result of the siege on the Holy City, was among those who set out for guard duty on its borders and from December 1947 he remained in Sheik Jarrah. On the night of the 16th of Nisan 5708 (25.4.1948), after the Palmach attack on Sheikh Jarrah, which failed due to a severe counter-attack by the enemy, Chaim Levi volunteered to help a wounded friend, crawled under a shower of bullets and was killed on the spot. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Sanhedria in Jerusalem. He left behind a wife and two young girls.
