Greiser, Dov


Son of Chaya and Yaakov, was born on January 14, 1926, in Ramat Gan. From the age of two and a half he grew up in Kfar Yehoshua, where his parents settled. He excelled in his studies, fine and precise, liked nature and knew how to examine the animal world with a keen eye. From his father’s death at the age of 11, and even earlier during his father’s long illness, he had burdened himself with his brothers with the burden of the agriculture beyond his capacity and yet he did not neglect his studies at school. After graduating from the 10th grade he studied at the Seminar of the Moshav Movement in Jerusalem. He was not a “juggler” in the youth society, but he excelled in helping others. Someone stood in front of a job that was above his capacity – a bear came and leaned. For family reasons, he was forced to give up his desire to enlist in the Jewish Brigade. In 1946, he volunteered for the Palmach, where he discovered his qualities from home: carrying a burden of training and hardships without complaint, and always willing to help those who failed, Dov was a handsome young man who was very fond of all his friends. And when he joined the Palmach he was released from work instead of parking his unit in light of his duty to the family farm, and was only used for training and various Palmach activities in the underground, in which he excelled quickly and bravely in dangerous situations. In the spring of 1948 he went to Jerusalem and took part in raids on Saris, Beit Surik, Beit Iksa and Nebi Samuel, and vowed to avenge the blood of his fallen commander. The radar camp, not to be handed over to the Arabs, was overruled by his insistent demand that his commander and his comrades take part in this operation. Dov was brought to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Anavim.
