Grego, Mazy
Orly and Nissim’s eldest daughter. Was born on May 13, 1984 in the “Hakirya” hospital in Tel Aviv, after four years of infertility and many treatments. Upon her arrival in the world, her parents’ home was illuminated with great light and their heart was flooded with happiness. Mazi was the perfect girl they had so longed for: a beautiful baby with beautiful eyes, a kind of kindness. Throughout her life, her beautiful and special eyes were her trademark, and they captivated many. Mazi grew up and was educated in Holon. Mazi loved to help everyone, contributed her time and energy to the Student Council and made sure to share with others the great knowledge she was blessed with. She graduated cum laude with honors. Mazi was an exemplary daughter and the mitzvah of honoring parents was a guiding light. Mazi was sent to a course in the Military Intelligence Unit where she was trained and certified as a computer system operator. She completed the course with great success and very high grades and was assigned to Unit 180 – the Air Force Information Systems Unit. Mazi was absorbed in the field of computer infrastructure in the Monitoring and Control Division, which was responsible for the security of the IDF network and was responsible for preventing the infiltration of viruses and hostile elements to the computerized system. Mazi managed to serve in the Israel Defense Forces for only four months, and only a month later at her base in Tzrifin, but even in this short time she showed a strong desire to contribute and advance. The commander of the unit testified: “Mazi stood out within a short period of time and established her position in the eyes of her commanders and colleagues as a soldier with a desire to contribute, diligent and thorough, who had impressive abilities, and the magic of her life restored her heart. Way to our hearts.” On 12 Elul, September 9, 2003, Mazi fell in a terrorist attack in Zrifin as she made her way to her home. Dozens of people were injured in the attack, most of them seriously. Eight other soldiers and soldiers were killed: Captain Yael Kfir, Rabbi Chaim Alfasi, Senior Sergeant Yaakov Ben-Shabat, Sergeant Liron Siboni, Sergeant Yonatan Peleg, Sergeant Efrat Schwartzman, Corporal Prosper-Perry Twito and Corporal Felix Nikolaichuk.
